Steve Frothingham

Steve is in his second stint at BRAIN. He was here at the beginning in 1992 while still working for a bike shop in Santa Fe, N.M. He wrote several articles for BRAIN's first issue and later joined the staff, eventually becoming managing editor and then executive editor.

After leaving BRAIN in 1997 he worked for several news organizations including The Associated Press and VeloNews before rejoining BRAIN as web editor in 2011.

He is based in Longmont, Colorado, and is an enthusiastic (and slow) road, mountain bike and cyclocross rider.

Industry takes trademarks to the bank

You can't ride them on the street, dirt or track, but you can take them to the bank, and trademarks have been a currency and a source of dispute in the bike industry at least since 1898. That's when the Kodak camera company successfully sued the maker of Kodak bicycles, arguing that the bike's name devalued its trademark.

UCI relaxes time trial bike position rules

Mad Fiber files for bankruptcy

SEATTLE, WA (BRAIN) — Divine Cycling Group International, Inc. has filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition for DCG Wheels, the Seattle-based maker of Mad Fiber carbon wheels. Mad Fiber has been shut down for several months; Chapter 7 generally governs the liquidation of a company's assets.
