Kent sells Univega USA and Kent-branded e-bikes.

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection has ruled that e-bikes fall under the same category as electric motorcycles and therefore share an exclusion, granted in September, from the Trump administration's Section 301 tariffs on Chinese imports. Importers of Chinese e-bikes are now exempt from paying the 25% tariff imposed in August 2018.

ALBANY, N.Y. (BRAIN) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted last month that he would propose legislation to legalize e-bikes and e-scooters in the state. He said he would announce the legislation during his State of the State speech, which he delivered Wednesday. Instead, Cuomo, did not mention e-bikes in his speech.

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — The U.S. Trade Representative has denied a dozen requests from Aosom LLC for exclusions from new tariffs on various types of bike trailers from China.

NEW YORK (BRAIN) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo vetoed a bill Thursday that would give all classes of e-bikes the same rights of the road as traditional bicycles throughout the state. Only Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes will still be allowed in the city.
