EMMAUS, Pa. (BRAIN) — Peter Flax is leaving Bicycling magazine, where he has been editor in chief since 2010. Flax is being replaced temporarily by Bill Strickland, Bicycling's current editor at large, according to a letter sent to staffers by Rodale president Scott D. Schulman on Wednesday.
"Peter has been a passionate ambassador for the brand and has played a critical role in establishing Bicycling as the clear leader in its category," Schulman said in the letter.
"Over the next weeks and months, I will be determining the longer-term approach for leadership at the brand," Schulman said. "I plan to meet with the Bicycling team soon to discuss our current strategic work efforts and future approaches."
One source familiar with the situation told BRAIN that Flax's final day would be Friday.
BRAIN was unable to reach Flax or other Rodale employees Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier this month, Zack Grice was promoted to Bicycling's publisher position. At the time, Rodale said Bicycling's revenue was up nearly 17 percent so far in 2014, while ad pages were up nearly 12 percent.
