AMSTERDAM (BRAIN) — VanMoof resumed e-bike sales and service in the United Kingdom Monday after the brand was acquired by British e-mobility company Lavoie last year.
A VanMoof spokesperson told BRAIN VanMoof continues to work on restarting sales in the U.S. but no timetable has been established. The spokesperson also said e-bikes are only offered in-store with direct-to-consumer sales following soon.
The S5 and A5 models — re-engineered to be more reliable and with better connectivity, Van Moof said — are now available at the brand's eight-location U.K. retailer network. The models have been available for sale in the Netherlands, Germany, and France since April.
"As a longtime Londoner, it has been incredibly exciting to see the progress the country is making in creating the infrastructure that will support the rapid expansion of the e-bike market," said VanMoof co-CEO Eliott Wertheimer. "Riding e-bikes is one of the most freeing and convenient experiences in cities, and our products are some of the greatest tools to maximize this experience and revolutionize what the industry is able to offer to its riders."
VanMoof also is working to provide service partners with OEM parts for the S3 and X3 pre-acquisition models.
VanMoof was acquired in August 2023 by Lavoie, part of global technology company McLaren Applied, which was connected to the McLaren Group — also consisting of McLaren Automotive and McLaren Racing. VanMoof was declared bankrupt in July 2023 by the court of Amsterdam.
