IRVINE, California- September 10, 2026 - The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) is pleased to announce the election of three new members to its Board of Directors: Kate Rockett, co-owner of Outback Bikes in Atlanta, Georgia; Chad Terry, owner of Bikes Plus in Germantown, Tennessee; and Daniel Patterson, founder and owner of Upstate Bicycle Works in Troy, New York. Current Board Chair Andrew Feenstra, owner of Cyclesmith in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has also been elected to serve another term.
Together, these four leaders bring extensive experience in bicycle retail, financial management, community engagement, transportation planning, advocacy, and organizational leadership. Their election reflects the NBDA's continued commitment to ensuring its board represents the diverse experiences and perspectives of Specialty Bicycle Retailers throughout North America.

Kate Rockett
Kate Rockett is the co-owner of Outback Bikes, a two-location bicycle retailer that has served the Atlanta community for 40 years. During more than two decades of helping lead the business, she has developed extensive experience in retail operations, employee and brand relationships, community involvement, and organizational leadership.
Rockett has served organizations focused on scouting, art, nature, conservation, advocacy, and local business development. Her leadership experience includes roles as a district activity director, board member, and vice president of a local business association. She is currently serving her second year as a member of the Hapeville City Appeals Board. Rockett describes herself as a problem solver and resolution seeker- skills strengthened through decades of business ownership, community service, and raising five children.
Chad Terry
Chad Terry brings nearly 40 years of bicycle-industry experience to the NBDA Board. He has owned Bikes Plus in Germantown, Tennessee, for 26 years and is a multi-year recipient of the NBDA Bicycle Retailer Excellence Award.
Terry holds an MBA in Finance and combines extensive hands-on retail knowledge with a strong understanding of financial management and business strategy. He also founded a local National Interscholastic Cycling Association team and has led numerous charitable cycling initiatives within his community.
"Having spent nearly 40 years building skills and a business in bicycle retail, joining the NBDA Board is a meaningful way to give back to the community that helped develop my career," said Terry. "I am committed to helping fellow shop owners navigate current challenges, strengthen their operations, and secure a long-term, profitable future for bicycle retail."
Daniel Patterson
Daniel Patterson is the founder and owner of Upstate Bicycle Works in Troy, New York. He has built a service-first independent bicycle shop focused on high-quality repairs, custom bicycles, and lasting customer relationships.
Patterson brings more than 15 years of bicycle-industry experience across a variety of roles. He also has professional experience in urban planning, where he supported the development of transportation and land-use policies designed to create safer, better-connected communities.
With a master's degree in Urban Transportation, Patterson brings a valuable perspective on the intersection of cycling, mobility, public policy, and independent retail. He is passionate about advancing the bicycle industry through innovation, collaboration, and practical solutions.
Andrew Feenstra
Andrew Feenstra, owner of Cyclesmith in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has been re-elected to the NBDA Board of Directors and will continue serving as Board Chair.
Feenstra began his bicycle-industry career as a service technician in 1986 and joined Cyclesmith in 1994. After briefly leaving the industry, he returned as a co-owner in 1999 and became the sole owner in 2016. He has since built a team of dedicated bicycle retail professionals while supporting charity rides, hospital foundations, immigration services, youth advocacy programs, and other community organizations.
An NBDA Board member since 2023, Feenstra's ongoing goal is to elevate bicycle retail as a respected profession in which people can earn a living wage, build meaningful careers, and work in an industry they are passionate about.
The new and returning directors will work alongside the full NBDA Board and Executive Director Heather Mason to guide the organization's strategic initiatives and strengthen the programs, education, research, advocacy, and support available to Specialty Bicycle Retailers.
"Strong Specialty Bicycle Retailers create stronger businesses, stronger communities, and more opportunities for people to ride," Mason added. "The knowledge and leadership represented on this board will help the NBDA continue building a more connected, sustainable, and profitable future for bicycle retail."
