Vista Outdoor's Revelyst unit sees sales decline but improved margins

Published November 8, 2024

ANOKA, Minn. (BRAIN) — Vista Outdoor's Revelyst business unit, which contains its bike-related brands, recorded sales of $315 million in the company's fiscal 2Q25, a 3.9% decline year-over-year. Despite the sales decline, the company said a cost-cutting program improved profits and EBITDA figures for the quarter.

Vista Outdoor is holding a shareholders meeting Nov. 25 to consider accepting an offer from Czechoslovak Group a.s. (CSG) to acquire its Kinetic Group business unit, which contains its ammunition-related brands. Vista Outdoor also is proceeding with plans to sell Revelyst to Strategic Value Partners, LLC for $1.125 billion. That sale does not require shareholder approval but depends on the closing of the CSG transaction and regulatory approvals. The company said it expects to close on the SVP sale by the end of January.

Revelyst contains bike-related brands Giro, Bell Sports, Fox Racing, CamelBak, Blackburn, QuietKat and others. Revelyst CEO Eric Nyman said the division's "GEAR Up" cost-cutting program saved $11.6 million in the first half of its fiscal year. That helped the division notch a 67% increase in operating income to $21 million. The division's operating income margin increased 270 basis points to 6.6%. Its adjusted EBITDA increased 25.8% to $38 million.

“Our teams across Revelyst worked hard to deliver a terrific second quarter, keeping us on track with our commitment to double standalone adjusted EBITDA for the Fiscal Year,” Nyman said. “Looking ahead, we are excited to partner with SVP to capitalize on the momentum that we have built at Revelyst. The partnership positions us well to continue to leverage our integrated international house of brands and leadership in the outdoor industry. We see accelerating growth and an ability to deliver further innovation and top-tier products to outdoor enthusiasts bolstered by the access to SVP’s full operating resources and network. The future at Revelyst is bright, and I look forward to the next step in our journey alongside SVP.”

The company said Revelyst Adventure Sports — the Revelyst business unit that includes the bike accessory brands and CamelBak — had lower sales volume year-over-year but did not release specific sales figures for the unit.

Within the Revelyst Outdoor Performance business unit, which includes brands like Bushnell, Simms, Camp Chef, Stone Glacier and Primos, the company recently divested two brands: Fiber Energy Products (a wood-pellet brand) and RCBS (a firearms reloading company).

Company-wide, Vista Outdoor's sales decreased 1.6% to $666 million in the quarter. Company-wide gross profit increased 1.2% to $211 million.

Vista Outdoor's stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the VSTO symbol.
