LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. (BRAIN) — The majority of IBD sales still take place inside the four walls of a brick-and-mortar store, and many retailers don't believe that will change dramatically over the next few years, according to a survey conducted by Bicycle Retailer & Industry News.

FULLERTON and BUENA PARK, Calif. (BRAIN) — Retailer Mike Franze held a grand reopening celebration on Saturday, March 31, following the renovation of his two Southern California locations as Giant Retail Partner stores. The celebration also marked Franze's 15th year as a shop owner.

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (BRAIN) — Industry veteran Bruce Sawtelle recently completed a full remodel of his D.C.-area store, Takoma Bicycle, with retail design firm 3 Dots Design.

The France-based chain, with more than 1,300 stores globally, will offer its house-brand B'Twin bikes at U.S. stores and online.
The store held a grand opening event on Thursday, March 29.

SAN FRANCISCO (BRAIN) — Decathlon, said to be the world's largest sporting goods retailer, is making its second stab at the U.S. market. Last week the company opened a 8,300-square-foot "lab store" on San Francisco's Market Street.

PARK CITY, Utah (BRAIN) — E-commerce retailer Backcountry.com this week announced a new line of branded apparel for outdoor and casual use and said it would add mountain bike items to its new house brand later this year.

The organization is making plans for events in Phoenix, Atlanta and Philadelphia.

AUSTIN, Texas (BRAIN) — The Professional Bicycle Mechanics Association will continue its technical education conferences this coming fall and winter.

KENT, Wash. (BRAIN) — Under its new parent, Accell Group, Beeline Bikes is mapping out aggressive growth plans both domestically and internationally. In a call with Bicycle Retailer & Industry News, Accell North America CEO John Short said the goal is for Beeline to operate in 30 U.S. cities by end of year and 60 by end of 2019.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (BRAIN) — Retailer Kent Cranford has announced plans to open a third Motion Makers Bicycle Shop later this spring. The store will be located in Cherokee, a small town about one hour west of Asheville that serves as a gateway to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

CALGARY, Alberta (BRAIN) — Calgary Cycle, which claims to be the oldest bike shop in the city, has opened a new, 12,000-square-foot store for the 2018 season.

Calgary Cycles has been in business 87 years and now has four locations. The newest will celebrate with grand opening events this weekend.

SAN CARLOS, Calif. (BRAIN) — Beeline Bikes has launched its newest mobile bike shop, in California's Capitol city. Beeline Bikes of Sacramento marks the second territory owned by Bzur Haun, who acquired Beeline Bikes NorCal in August 2017.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (BRAIN) — The National Bicycle Dealers Association's Profitability Project, better known as its P2 Program, is moving its monthly reporting to a real-time, web-based system.

SAN FRANCISCO (BRAIN) — Myagi, which hosts video training programs for several industry suppliers and organizations, also has available 10 free bicycle retailer staff training videos.

The videos cover how to sell tires, helmets and other products.

LOS ANGELES (BRAIN) — Just Ride LA, a store that started in a garage in 2006, has been remodeled and has reopened as a Giant Partner Store.

BALTIMORE (BRAIN) — Princeton Sports, a third-generation ski and bike retailer that dates to 1936, is closing one of its two locations after selling the real estate.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (BRAIN) — Retailer Robin Bylenga opened Pedal Chic in 2010 to cater to female cyclists. In February, Bylenga moved the store into a larger space on the bike path in downtown Greenville, about two and half blocks from Pedal Chic's previous location.

SALEM, Ore. (BRAIN) — In the name of simplification, Oregon's Legislature this weekend amended the state's $15 bicycle excise tax to include all bikes selling for $200 or more, including e-bikes. The tax originally exempted bikes with wheels smaller than 26 inches and exempted e-bikes that were sold through bike shops.
