BRAIN is seeking more contributors!

Published September 14, 2020

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — Editors at Bicycle Retailer & Industry News want to share more voices from all corners of the bike industry on our website and print magazine for 2022. We publish 12 magazines a year in addition to this website and several newsletters.

We are currently seeking contributors and participants for next year in the following areas:

  • Freelance contributions. We are always interested to hear proposals from journalists and industry members for news features, profiles, news analysis, service journalism and enterprise stories. If you have a talent for photography, illustration or video production and have ideas for BRAIN, there are opportunities there, as well.
  • The State of Retail panel. Nine retailers are asked to answer a question each month about their store operations. Responses are published in each magazine issue and on the website. The panel commitment is for 12 months, deadlines are firm, and participation is unpaid. New panel members start with the January 2022 issue (deadline in early December). We choose panelists based on geographic and demographic diversity and aim to include a variety of types of bike retailers, from small to large, across all niches and channels.
  • Guest editorials. We publish a Guest Editorial, or Op-Ed, each month in the print issue and occasionally on the web as well. The print feature is less than 1,000 words. Contributors are not paid for these opinion columns.
  • Regular print and web columnists. We are accepting proposals for regular columns for 2022. The columns can be monthly or bi-monthly. Pay is negotiable. If you have an angle on the industry that you can develop and share regularly, lets talk.
  • BRAIN is committed to diversity; women, Black, Indigenous and People of Color and members of other underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. We also seek diversity in geographic regions, age, and industry role. Whether you are starting out your career at a small shop, or you are an experienced veteran at an established supplier, we want you to be heard.

If you are interested in any of the above, contact our editor in chief, Steve Frothingham, at sfrothingham@outsideinc.com.

BRAIN is part of Outside, the publisher of several dozen magazines and media titles, including Outside magazine, VeloNews, CyclingTips, PinkBike, Beta, Outside Business Journal and more. All paid contributors join a database that is shared with the editors of all the other titles.
