FORT WAYNE, IN (BRAIN)—After 96 years in business, longtime Indiana retailer Koehlingers Cycling and Fitness has closed its doors.
According to Fort Wayne's The News Sentinel, Koehlinger's demise had to with the retailer deciding to enter into the commercial fitness business years ago. The retailer began selling commercial fitness equipment to hospitals, universities and fitness centers, but the business lost a lot of money when the manufacturers decided to sell directly, according to the newspaper.
"We got away from our core business: retail bicycles and fitness equipment," said owner Dean Koehlinger.
Dean's grandfather started the business in 1913. And Dean has worked in the family business for more than 50 years.
