IRVINE, Calif. (BRAIN) — Shimano has introduced its model year 2017 softgoods line, including footwear, apparel, gloves, bags and packs for mountain biking, road cycling and recreational riding.
The Japanese company collaborated with France's Michelin on the outersoles of some new mountain bike shoes, and with Denver's BOA on shoe closures on some upper-end road and mountain bike shoes.
The company released a new Explorer Collection that features something Shimano calls "Discrete Reflectivity," the use of reflective materials that the company said don't affect style or fit. The reflectivity feature appears on jerseys, shoes, and backpacks. The Explorer collection is designed for stylish urban riding or offroad touring. It includes shoes, pants, shorts, gloves and shirts.
Shimano's new eyewear line includes seven eyewear models offered in North America, including three new models, the S52R, S51X and S42X, as well as new colors for existing models. The new Trail Series Enduro packs include the redesigned Unzen trail packs. The packs were redesigned for a better fit to the body for a more stable ride.
The company also is showing off new Shimano-branded performance riding apparel including a slim-fit jersey and bib short. The new clothes are intended to be affordable at $69.99 for the top and $79.99 for the bib.
The Shimano footwear line features two new enduro-style shoes, the ME7 and ME5. Both models feature the new Michelin outsoles, as does the XC7, a cross-country racing shoe model with a BOA closure system. Shimano also released a new Road Competition series of shoes, topped by the $200 RC7, which has a carbon fiber sole, lightweight upper and BOA closure.
