Taichung report: Praxis Works rebrands Turn crank line

Published October 22, 2015
'Micro-compact' is the coming trend in road gearing.

TAICHUNG, Taiwan (BRAIN) — Turn was an apt name for Praxis Works' growing crank line and distinguishes the cranks from the company's Praxis Works-branded bottom brackets and chainring offerings. But the company kept fielding questions from customers asking about Praxis cranks, so company officials have decided it didn't make sense to keep supporting the Turn brand.

"It just seemed easier to rebrand the cranks 'Praxis Works' than to keep having to explain the Turn brand," said Adam Haverstock, Praxis Works' director of marketing and sales. "So between Eurobike and Interbike we made the decision to rebrand the cranks. Our new cranks, like the 2D-forged Cadet, will be branded Praxis Works from the start, but we have changed the brand on the whole line now," he added.

During Bike Week the company was hearing interest for double road cranks with large rings in the high-40-tooth range. Paired with wide-range cassettes, these kinds of "compact-compact" or "micro-compact" gear combinations are able to provide a gear range similar to a road triple.

"There is a lot of interest from product managers in these cranks. Triple road cranks are still popular in parts of Europe, and a crank like these micro-doubles can simplify the drivetrain. In the U.S. these are ideal cranks for adventure riding," Haverstock added. While the new Cadet crank targets OEM value spec, the micro-compact road double gearing is also available on other Praxis Works cranks.
