NEW YORK (BRAIN) — Worksman Cycles will open a new manufacturing facility in Conway, South Carolina, in the first quarter of 2016.
The new 100,000 square-foot factory is being built to meet the increased demand for Worksman's line of industrial and recreational bicycles and tricycles.
"While the entire cycle industry relocated to Asia in the 1980s and 90s, we made a commitment to manufacturing in America," said Jeff Mishkin, Worksman's CEO. "We are now proud to be on the forefront of the cycle manufacturing renaissance in the United States," he added, referring to Kent International's bike factory in Manning, South Carolina.
Worksman's corporate headquarters, research and development and design studio will remain in New York, where the company has been located for its 118-year existence. The New York facility also will continue to house the company's rapidly growing mobile food vending equipment and bikeshare divisions and will continue to produce delivery cycles, e-Trikes and custom products for marketing and promotional uses.
Bicycles will continue to roll out of Worksman's New York factory until production in South Carolina starts. The company also plans to expand its Worksman Global Division that will stock and distribute unique cycling products from around the world, such as the hand-cycles from Pacific Cycle of Taiwan.
"The new facility will give us the bandwidth necessary to bring great American-made product to IBDs at very competitive pricing," said Wayne Sosin, Worksman's president. "Where the recreational line has always been the little brother to our industrial line, we are now rededicating ourselves to becoming an important part of the IBD product mix with an American-made alternative to imported cycles," Sosin added.
