LOUISVILLE, Colo. (BRAIN) — Pearl Izumi has launched a limited edition version of its X-Project cycling shoes that is being sold to benefit the Amy D. Foundation. Pearl Izumi is also offering jerseys and shorts that are being to sold to benefit the foundation.
Only 200 pairs of the shoes are being made; $100 from each pair sold is going to the foundation. Half of the proceeds from sales of the apparel is going to the foundation.
The Amy D. Foundation is named for Amy Dombroski, an American cyclocross racer who died while training in Belgium. The foundation encourages and supports young women through cycling.
"We are proud to support The Amy D. Foundation and their mission to empower young women and help others follow their passions," said Andrew Hammond, global brand manager for Pearl Izumi. "Amy truly inspired as an athlete and a person and we are excited to launch this shoe that will help other young women follow in Amy's footsteps."
The items were launched at Interbike and are being sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. Jerseys and shorts can be purchased on the Pearl Izumi site. The shoes will also be available on the Pearl Izumi website at the end of October.
