Formula offers new disc brake, the Cura, for MY 2017

Published April 21, 2016

PRATO, Italy (BRAIN) — Formula’s new Cura hydraulic mountain bike disc brakes include features that will interest consumers and mechanics.

The brake’s large axial master cylinder was designed for improved modulation. The large reservoir also has multiple bleed ports and is entirely above the master cylinder for simpler bleeding.

The caliper also has large (24mm) pistons for maximum power, and a SpeedLock valve that allows the hose to be quickly removed and reattached for efficient internal hose routing.

The Cura is Formula’s first brake to use mineral oil.

The handlebar clamp is available with an optional Mix Master, which allows the direct attachment of Shimano or SRAM shifters. One-piece and two piece rotors are available.

A kit with levers, hose and caliper (no rotor) will retail for $175 in the black finish or $180 in polished silver.

Rotors range from $36 to $82 depending on type and size.

The brakes are available with a matte black or polished silver finish. The system weight, with an 85cm hose and 160mm rotor, is 359 grams.
