KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (BRAIN) — Rick Adams is the new CEO of LeMond Bicycles, replacing Dean Hendrickson, who will transition to CEO of LeMond Carbon.
Adams has more than 30 years of sports management experience, most recently as the chief of sport performance at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee for the past 11 years. Before that, he spent 15 years in professional sports, eight years as president and CEO of the East Coast Hockey League.
LeMond Bicycles released its first two models — the Dutch and Prolog e-bikes — almost two years ago, which are city-styled and feature carbon fiber frames.
"The bikes we've designed have the ability to transform the entire industry and the lives of the customers who ride them," founder Greg LeMond said. "Rick joining at this moment in time will ensure we are able to build a company capable of servicing a significant market. Rick's reputation as a leader is understood around the world, and I couldn't be more excited."
The brand will release the LeMond 8, the company's first carbon fiber road bike line, with details on availability coming later this year.
"I want to thank Greg, (LeMond Bicycles Board Chair Jim Benson), and the entire team at LeMond Bicycles for their confidence in me as we embark on this incredibly exciting journey," Adams said. "I've spent more than 30 years preparing for this role, and I am honored to be part of the team."
Greg LeMond announced last month that he had been diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, a form of blood cancer that's treatable and not life-threatening.
