BIG FLATS, N.Y. (BRAIN) — Stan's has released a plant-based all-conditions wax chain lube it says works as well as a hot-wax system. Polar Drip Wax bonds to metal at the molecular level, and according to the brand, can last 200-plus miles between applications.
Like hot-wax systems, Polar Drip Wax has a high-level of cleanliness, according to Stan's. It was developed in-house with Whistler Performance Labs and uses an aqueous emulsion with wax molecules temporarily suspended in a water "carrier" that flows into rollers and pins at room temperature. After application, the water evaporates and the wax cures into a solid and thin low-friction film bonded to the metal.
It's recommended cleaning the chain with Stan's Biobased Drivetrain Cleaner for best results. Polar Drip Wax should be applied to each link without wiping and a second coat applied after five minutes. Wait a minimum of eight hours before riding.
