COSTA MESA, CA (BRAIN) — The National Bicycle Dealers Association has hired Rich Kelly as project director to head up new initiatives that will enhance the benefits available to the retail group’s members.
Some of the projects the NBDA has taken on recently include America’s Best Bike Shops, a new recognition program that replaces Bicycle Retailer’s longstanding Top 100; an expansion of its online educational webinars for retailers; and also more seminars at Interbike and the IBD Summit. The NBDA is also investigating a nationwide mechanics’ training program.
“I believe that the success of our industry has been — and will continue to be — dependent on a vibrant network of strong specialty retailers,” Kelly said. “The retailers on the NBDA board are a diverse, passionate and dynamic group that have all succeeded at bicycle retail. I have the utmost respect for them and look forward to working with them and all NBDA members to help support and inspire the IBD channel of trade to greater success.”
Kelly has previously held several leadership positions in the industry, most recently as brand and communications director for the Interbike trade show. He also held stints as sales and marketing manager for Inno Advanced Car Racks, as national sales manager for Spinergy and has worked as a freelance marketing consultant.
In 2012, he managed Bicycle Retailer and Industry News’ annual Top 100 Retailers program.
