EUGENE, OR (Apr. 3, 2023) – Burley, a company best known for their distinctive multifunctional bike trailers, is excited to announce the integration of postconsumer recycled fabrics into their kid bike trailer products.

After close coordination with their manufacturer, Burley has developed an updated line of kid trailers for the 2023 biking season. More than 50% of the softgoods on these trailers will be from postconsumer recycled materials that are mostly derived from plastic water bottles.

"At Burley, we prioritize the durability, longevity, and safety of our products," says Jon Anderegg, Burley's Product Design and Engineering Manager. "This is why you see many of our trailers last well beyond the original owner. While we were making the transition to postconsumer materials, we kept this same focus. We targeted key areas for implementation of postconsumer recycled fabrics, ensuring that our trailers can continue to serve for years to come while reducing our impact on the world we love to explore."

This update comes on the heels of another major change in 2022, when Burley incorporated bluesign® certified recycled fabrics into their pet products. Since then, Burley pet trailers have incorporated over 70% recycled fabric into the design.

Burley's efforts to increase usage of recycled materials reflect their continued focus on sustainable business practices and resource conservation.

"Our goal is to make it easy for people to get outside and create lasting memories with their loved ones," says Nick Martinez, Director of Sales and Marketing at Burley. "By integrating postconsumer recycled fabric into our kid trailers, we are doing our part to help ensure that future generations have safe and enjoyable places to ride."

In 2023, Burley estimates that their postconsumer recycled fabric will reuse more than 1 million plastic water bottles, with an expected 55% of all softgoods across their kid and pet bike trailers being postconsumer recycled fabrics.

Burley's updated Encore® X, D'LiteTM X, and Cub® X kid bike trailers will be available in the U.S. starting April 3rd. Customers can purchase through Burley.com, major online retailers, and local bike shops. Burley's updated Bee® and Honey BeeTM trailers are expected to launch later this summer. International customers can purchase through most major online retailers and local bike shops in April or May. Please check with your local distributor for product availability.
