The company said it was joining REI in promoting the #optoutside campaign on Nov. 27, AKA Black Friday.
"The feeling of adventure means everything to us because we love the ride. It’s the way people cut loose, go out and live. It’s a way to transcend the work of necessity and experience the spirit of freedom. The ride is a feeling, and we are committed to that feeling. So on Black Friday, instead of standing in lines and hunting for bargains, we’ll be outside, moving through space, carving turns, and enjoying the ride.
Join us."
Since REI announced it was closing its retail locations and not processing online orders on Black Friday, several other outdoor brands, including Outdoor Research and Gregory Packs, have followed suit, by closing that day and encouraging employees and clients to get outside.
A few retailers also have announced they will close that day, including Baltimore's Joe's Bike Shop, Pennsylvania's Genesis Bicycles, and Ohio's True Heights Equipment Outfitter. At least two bike tour companies, Chattanooga's BikeTours.com and Washington state's Bicycle Adventures, have also joined the campaign.
