WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Brompton is recalling some T Line foldable bikes because of a steering issue. The recall is being done in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
According to Brompton, the hazard is "a loss of alignment between the handlebar and front wheel, due to insufficient torquing of steerer clamp bolts (that) can cause the rider to lose control of the steering, posing a fall hazard."
About 1,080 bikes are affected in the U.S., with another 31 sold in Canada. Consumers should stop using the bikes and contact an authorized Brompton dealer for a free repair to tighten the steerer clamp bolts on the stem. Brompton is contacting all registered owners and dealers directly.
There have been 13 reports of incidents of steering misalignment or loss of steering control worldwide, but no injuries have been reported.
The T Line bikes have the word "Brompton" printed on the center tube and a label with the frame number and serial number on the back of the seat tube. The label also has a distinctive "T" logo distinguishing this model from others. The bikes were sold in a blasted titanium color.
