CHICAGO (BRAIN) — SRAM on Wednesday gave media, manufacturers, athletes, teams and retailers the go-ahead to publicly release details of the company's AXS wireless 12-speed components, some of which the company says are available immediately at retail.
AXS includes road and mountain components that are largely interchangeable for those who want drop-bar shifters on a mountain bike or mountain bike gearing on a road bike, for example. There is also a new wirelessly activated RockShox Reverb dropper post and new Quarq power meter option. All the parts of the system can be configured and customized via a mobile phone app.
SRAM formally introduced the parts to the media at an event in Tucson, Arizona, earlier this year, under condition that the media embargo the information until Wednesday. Several media outlets had previously posted spy shots of the parts in use by pro racers in recent months.
The upcoming March 1 issue of Bicycle Retailer & Industry News will include an article on how SRAM planned and implemented the rollout of the AXS products. The company had the goal of making complete AXS road bikes and parts available to consumers on the day, or very close to the day, that they were publicly announced. The AXS mountain bike groups, XX1 Eagle AXS and XO1 Eagle AXS, will be available at retail in April.
