MONTEREY, Calif. (BRAIN) — A moment of silence will be held Saturday at the Sea Otter Classic in memory of racer Steve Tilford, who died in a highway accident earlier this month at age 57.
The moment will be held prior to Saturday's men's cross-country race.
This week USA Cycling announced a Steve Tilford Memorial Fund to honor Tilford's passion for clean sport.
USA Cycling said the fund was created at the request of Tilford's family.
"Steve was an outspoken advocate for clean and fair competition, and this fund will honor Steve's passion for clean sport and be part of his lasting legacy," USA Cycling said.
The fund will focus on programs that encourage juniors to appreciate and respect the benefits and ideals of fair competition, and fully understand the risks and downsides to doping.
Gifts to the fund can be made on the Steve Tilford Memorial Fund webpage.
