Second annual Santa Monica Bicycle Expo adds non-competitive ride

Published August 13, 2015

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (BRAIN) — The second annual Santa Monica Bicycle Expo will be held once again at the landmark Santa Monica Pier, on Oct. 10-11. This year the event, which offers free admission, will include a 15-mile non-competitive bike ride.

Besides its world-famous beach-side multi-use path, Santa Monica has extensive mountain bike trails in the Santa Monica Mountains and the city has committed to increasing cycling as a viable means of transportation, event organizers said.

"The SMBE offers exhibitors the opportunity to connect with not only existing cyclists in the area, but with potential cyclists who use the adjacent highly trafficked bicycle path to run, walk and roller blade," organizers said.

The new organized ride, the Tour of Santa Monica, will start and finish at the event with the route following bike lanes and paths throughout the city, meandering through residential and business districts of Santa Monica. Rest stops and entertainment activities are planned along with a post-ride goody bag, t-shirt and medal.
