E-Thirteen and MRP agree to co-license their bashguard technology

Published May 6, 2015

PETALUMA, Calif. (BRAIN) — E-Thirteen and MRP have entered into a co-licensing agreement that covers their respective intellectual property relating to direct-mount bashguards.

Both companies have used direct-mount guards since 2007.

The co-licensing agreement involves four patents owned by MRP and one by E-Thirteen, all related to chainring protectors. The E-Thirteen patent was invented by well-known industry designer Dave Weagle and assigned to the company.

In a statement, the companies said the agreement will allow each company "to focus independently on continuing innovation, while working together to address any infringing designs that are in the market."

E-Thirteen's Todd Bischoff said the two companies had been "bickering" over the patents but had not sued each other. "We are playing nice now," he said.

The patents involved:

MRP Patents: RE42,436USRE44379US8235849 and  US8491429.

E-Thirteen patent: US008979685.
