HELSINKI, Finland (BRAIN)—Mavic’s sales grew 8 percent in the first quarter of the year according to earnings released early Thursday by parent company Amer Sports.

For the first three months of the year, revenue was 34.4 million euros compared with 29.3 million euros for the same time period in 2010.

Mavic’s performance was driven by strong growth in apparel and footwear, said Heikki Takala, president and CEO of Amer Sports, although sales were up in all the main product categories.

Amer’s entire winter and outdoor segment grew 20 percent with sales of 233.5 million euros, up from 181.7 million euros last year. The segment was led by 34 percent growth in footwear and a 28 percent increase in apparel. Geographically, the strongest growth was in the Americas.

Besides Mavic, Amer also owns Salomon, Wilson, Atomic, Arc’teryx, Precor and Suunto.
