SAN DIEGO, CA (BRAIN)—The Competitor Group (CGI) has hired Josh Furlow as its senior vice president of operations.

Furlow will oversee the planning, operations and logistics for the company’s flagship Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series currently scheduled to operate in 17 cities across the nation in 2011, according to a press release.

Furlow brings to CGI a distinguished career with a proven record of success in event management, production and operations. Most recently, Furlow served as the vice president of planning & operations for AEG Sports where he managed the operations, vendors and budgets for the Bay to Breakers 12k and the Amgen Tour of California, the largest cycling race in the United States.

“Josh comes to CGI with a tremendous background in staging sports and entertainment events,” said Scott Dickey, president of CGI. “The depth of his experience across a multitude of event properties is impressive. We are very excited about Josh joining the organization and look forward to his contributions as we continue to expand our flagship Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.”

During his tenure with AEG, Furlow managed many events such as Stars On Ice, AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour and the World’s Toughest Cowboy Rodeo. Prior to AEG, he served as the vice president of touring and operations for Turnstile Entertainment of New York, producers and tour operators for Scholastic Entertainment properties.

“Given the quality reputation of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series across the endurance sports industry, it is truly a privilege to join the Competitor Group,” Furlow said. “This new and exciting challenge allows me to combine my experience with an unparalleled portfolio of event properties. I'm excited to be leading the strong operations team currently in place and am incredibly enthusiastic for what lies ahead.”
