ST. LOUIS, MO (BRAIN)—An effort is underway to ban bicyclists from several narrow two-lane highways in semi-rural southwest St. Charles County, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
There was a packed house at a Monday night council meeting, with people speaking out on both sides of the issue.
The proposal calls for a ban on bicycling on Highways D, DD, F and Z along with parts of Highway 94.
Authorities say the roadways are dangerous for cyclists, and that bikers can also be hazardous to motorists.
Opponents of the measure say it's possible to share the road safely.
The proposal has been tabled for now, and is expected to be taken up again in August.
