HAVERHILL, MA (BRAIN)—Back in April, Pedro's pledged to donate $20,000 to a new initiative of the International Mountain Bicycling Association. Coming up with that amount on-the-spot would require deep pockets but instead Pedro's declared that it would deliver on its promise over the next two years. What Pedro's did next was to initiate the donation with a series of projects all aimed at achieving the $20k goal.
Pedro's has marked the next step of the process to keep mountain bikes on the trails by launching an online raffle to benefit the IMBA Public Lands Initiative, according to a press release. With the Help of BikeReg.com and Pedro's respected partners like Orbea, Mavic, and Team Luna Chix, $50 will buy a 1-in-200 chance to win one of ten generous prizes with all the proceeds directly benefiting the Public Lands Initiative. In addition to an Orbea mountain bike, other prizes include Mavic CrossMax SLR wheelset plus a pair of Mavic Fury shoes; a Pedro's Master Tool Kit 3.0; a LUNA pro jersey signed by those doyennes of dirt: the LUNA pro team; and additional prize packages assembled by BikeReg.com.
IMBA launched the Public Lands Initiative to increase bike access across the United States. The announcement was made in dramatic fashion during the Bicycle Leadership Conference, which was held in tandem with the annual Sea Otter Classic. At this conference Pedro's joined other industry voices in pledging its support for this critical Initiative.
"20 plus years ago, Pedro's was founded with a mission to support the mountain bike family," said Pedro's CEO, Matt Simpson. "During the Bicycle Leadership Conference, we had made the decision as a team to reenter mountain biking; this pledge was our opportunity to walk our talk."
This raffle is only one of a number of efforts intended to help raise the promised funds and could put Pedro's halfway toward its $20,000 goal.
"This is just the starting point for us," said Jason Elhardt, Pedro's marketing manager. "We see $20,000 as the minimum but intend to raise a lot more than that."
The Public Lands Initiative offers new resources to promote a bicycle-friendly approach toward our nation's legacy of public lands protection.
"This will bring new resources to our advocates that they sorely need," said Mike Van Abel of IMBA. "It will enable IMBA to offer things like professional training sessions, stronger legal resources and enhanced communications tools. This is going to make a big difference for mountain bikers."
