Number "5" is alive: World Bicycle Relief President F.K. Day made a humorous commitment to attendees at last Thursday's forum, "The Power of Bicycles." Because the organization is celebrating nearly five years with 55,000 new bicycles delivered, and with another 50,000-bicycle program just launched, Day joked that he was going to the roulette tables and betting it all on "5," donating the proceeds to World Bicycle Relief. Well, he did—although the first go-around didn't win, the second scored big, to the tune of more than $4,500—enough to purchase 34 bicycles for students in Africa at $134 each. And it kept going: Pedro's held a $5 raffle for No. 1 of 50 World Bicycle Relief benefit special-edition Master Mechanics Toolsets; Pedro's President Chris Zigmont hand-delivered the $500 raffle proceeds, bringing the week's total to $5,000.
