Team behind Prevelo youth bike brand launch an adult bike line

Published April 18, 2024

MONTEREY, Calif. (BRAIN) — The makers of the Prevelo juvenile bike line have launched a new brand for adults: EagleBear. The company, which sells direct to consumers, showed the first EagleBear model at the Sea Otter Classic expo on Thursday.

The first model, called Black, has an aluminum frame, 700c wheels, and a rigid carbon fork. The $1,300 flat-bar bike has geometry for "all-day mixed surface adventure riding, and is also suitable for slow-speed family cruising," the company said. EagleBear is offering an optional extra set of 27.5-inch wheels with 2.2-inch wide mountain bike tires.

“The world is full of many different types of bikes, and the list of variations seems to be growing continuously,” said EagleBear co-founder Jim Huth. “With the Black, we wanted to build something that riders can use every day for every purpose.”

Huth founded EagleBear with partners Owen Dickson and Jacob Rheuban. All three work at Prevelo but EagleBear is a separate company.

The Black has a Shimano Deore 12-speed drivetrain, tubeless-ready Kenda tires, and Shimano flat-mount hydraulic brakes. Optional add-ons in addition to the 27.5 x 2.2” wheelset include: tubeless setup kit, alloy front rack, 80mm riser bar, colored lock-on grips, and bottle cages.

EagleBear is accepting pre-orders now at EagleBear.com with delivery estimated for mid-July.
