Norco eyes trail market with new Optic

Published April 19, 2016

PORT COQUITLAM, British Columbia (BRAIN) — Norco Bicycles has launched a new midtravel trail bike, the Optic, in aluminum and carbon models for 27.5- and 29-inch wheels.

Available in either a 120-millimeter-travel 27.5-inch platform or 110-millimeter 29er, the Optic features Norco's A.R.T. four-bar suspension system and has modern trail geometry, with a longer front center, shorter stem and a head angle of 68.5 degrees (29er) or 68 degrees (27.5-inch).

Boost 148 rear hub spacing allows the chainstays of the 29er versions to be the same length as the 27.5-inch iteration while still maintaining front-derailleur capability. The 29ers also get custom trail-tuned 120-millimeter forks for a plusher ride. In 27.5-inch, the Optic comes spec'd with a 130-millimeter fork. Higher-end builds in both wheel sizes include Boost 110 front hub spacing.

In both 27.5- and 29-inch, the Optic comes in two aluminum specs at $2,599 and $3,099 and three carbon builds from $3,599 to $7,199. The Optic is also available as a carbon frame kit in 27.5-inch or 29er for $2,099.

All Optic models are equipped with a dropper post, wide bars and rims, 11-speed drivetrains (1-by on all but the midlevel carbon spec), and a Schwalbe Racing Ralph/Nobby Nic tire combo, with different casings depending on spec level.

The Optic is currently shipping to retailers. More information is available on Norco's website
