Silca introduces tool kit and updates Hiro pump chuck

Published August 12, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS (BRAIN) — Silca is releasing a new tool kit consisting of hex keys, a 1/4-inch socket head driver and 10 driver bits, all packaged in a beech wood box.

The HX-One tool kit will begin shipping Sept. 1 and will retail for $125.

The hex tools are made of S-2 tool steel, which the company describes as "a shock resistant steel which has been refined by Swiss and German toolmakers for the optimal balance of strength, hardness, shock resistance and dimensional control."

The keys are then coated with thin-dense chrome, which Silca said provides the hardest, most dimensionally stable finish possible on each hex key. Finally, each tool is spray coated with a high-grip, high-visibility textured polymer finish for grip and control. The kit includes eight common hex wrench sizes.

The kit also includes a Silca 17-4 Stainless Magnetic Adapter that converts the 6mm hex key into a 1/4-inch socket driver. Included are six common Torx head bits, two Phillips head bits and two flat head bits.

The kit is packed into a CNC-machined box made from sustainable beech wood. Each box is hand sanded and finished before receiving a stainless steel Silca shield on the lid.

The box is held together by a small magnet that allows it to be opened with one hand if necessary.

Silca also announced updates to its Hiro presta pump chuck.

The Hiro v.2 has a new lever design that allows it to get into even tighter spaces on wheels. The chuck's overall stack height also is shorter for the same reason. The lever is now spring-actuated to control the force needed to remove it while providing a distinct on/off engagement and release.

Finally, the new Hiro has a flat top, allowing it to dock into the Silca Super Pista Ultimate pump's magnetic chuck holder.

The Hiro v.2 retails for $110.
