LONG BEACH, Calif. (BRAIN) – Following a recent price reduction, Pioneer is offering an even lower price point for its dual-leg crank-based power meter. Last fall, the consumer electronics company introduced a Power Meter Kit that gave consumers the option to add it to their existing compatible Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 or Ultegra 6800 cranksets instead of having to buy new cranksets with the system installed.
The kit retailed for $1,299. Pioneer is now lowering the price on the kit to $999.
The new price goes into effect immediately.
“Our goal for taking this piece to $999 is that we wanted to hit the $1,000 price point to start reaching a new buyer of power who might not be able to consider a fully installed crank solution. Now this makes it affordable to have dual-leg power technology,” said Russ Johnston, executive vice president of marketing and corporate communications for Pioneer.
“For the person barely considering power, or who’s budget-minded, we can offer a dual-leg solution that’s accurate,” he added. “This makes it the lowest-priced dual-leg power meter on the market. If you look at other options, they hover around $700 to $800 for a one-leg solution that approximates power by doubling one side. We’re able to offer dual-leg power measurement and you don’t have to change the cleats or your pedals.”
Retailers who currently stock Pioneer’s Power Meter Kit would take off a customer’s crank and ship it to Pioneer, which would install and calibrate the power meter on the crank at its Long Beach, Calif., facility and ship it back to the retailer. The cost of the install and shipping is included in the $999 price.
Johnston said the process would take anywhere from seven to 10 business days including shipping time.
Pioneer will continue to offer the $1,850 Dura-Ace and $1,550 Ultegra new crankset options with the meter already installed.
The kit is distributed through QBP, KHS, Hans Johnsen and Giant Bicycles as well as dealer direct.
