Trek fulfilling some online, retailer orders from company stores

WATERLOO, Wis. (BRAIN) — Trek has started fulfilling some online and retailer merchandise orders — including bikes — from its own company stores to leverage inventory there and expedite delivery when its distribution centers are out of stock, a Trek spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, a bike might be boxed from a Trek-owned store's sales floor or removed from original packaging and repackaged with the preparation process varying depending on the destination.

If a bike is being shipped D2C, it will have assembly instructions, tools, and consumer-facing packaging. If being shipped to another retailer to be built for a consumer, it does not come with tools or instructions. If a bike remains in its original packaging and is being shipped D2C, the retailer will complete the D2C preparation process, including partially assembly and repackaging with tools and instructions.

Every Trek-owned store that's part of the program has received the same standardized packing materials as well as detailed standards on how the bikes are supposed to be repackaged.

"The reason for doing this is to ensure every bike arrives in packaging and a state of assembly that's appropriate for its final destination, whether that's a consumer's home or a retailer preparing the bike for delivery to a customer," the spokesperson said.
