BERLIN (BRAIN) — E-commerce retailer Signa Sports United announced a collaboration with third-party logistics company Rhenus Warehousing Solutions and the opening of a 215,278-square-foot parts warehouse.
The warehouse in Hockenheim, Germany, is the largest bike parts hub in Europe. Signa Sports United said there are "excellent" distribution channels to several European markets and the warehouse creates cost savings and synergies. SSU owns the Wiggle and Chain Reaction e-commerce sites, among others.
"The site and the increased capacity will support organic growth and allows to efficiently integrate further (merger and acquisition) targets over the coming years," said Markus Knöller, Signa Sports United's head of logistics and fulfillment. "The site also gives us flexibility to integrate further sectors, such as tennis or outdoor, creating cross-sector synergies. We see 3PL partnerships for our international expansion as key to our growth strategy."
The warehouse has a starting capacity of five million orders within the first year, with the capability of 21 million orders by 2025 and 2026.
The warehouse also has capacity for Signa Sports United's bike business, including ProBikeshop, the Lyon, France-based bike retailer. SSU's current individual bike warehouses now will be supported by the new facility.
"We continue to see strong demand in Southern Europe, and this new site enables us to take our business to the next level," said Olivier Rochon, ProBikeshop founder and managing director. "As avid and passionate riders ourselves, we want to provide the best possible service to our customers. Having this additional capacity helps us to provide our expertise to even more riders."
