IRVINE, Calif. (BRAIN) — The National Bicycle Dealers Association women's virtual networking event is scheduled for March 8 as part of International Women's Day.

The event, Women of the Bicycle Industry, starts at 4 p.m. PST and is free and open to members and nonmembers but registration is required.

The event will provide an opportunity for introduction between women in the industry. Participants will have a chance beforehand via an online survey to give feedback on topics or questions they would like to see the group discuss. The restricted platform will allow a place for "real talk between women."

"International Women's Day is a perfect opportunity for us to invite collaboration and connection between women in the industry," said NBDA President Heather Mason. "We hope this event is just the launchpad of many opportunities."

The NBDA encourages all who identify as women, regardless of age, ethnicity, or background to attend. The event is open to shop owners, managers, staff, and industry professionals.

"Women in this industry should be celebrated, and I feel we have a lot to learn from each other," said Rachelle Schouten, NBDA development director. "This gathering will be a great way to not only commiserate with one another but hopefully also to create new relationships with some inspiring women."

Mason said being a woman in the bike industry presents challenges.

"I'm looking forward to providing a safe, welcoming place to bring those items forward and allow for much needed feedback in a peer-to-peer environment," Mason said. "The conversations will be dynamic."
