Cycling journalist Roy Wallack dies following mountain bike accident

LOS ANGELES (BRAIN) — Roy Wallack, a long-time cycling and outdoors journalist and adventurer, died Saturday after a mountain bike crash in the Santa Monica mountains. He was 64.

Wallack was a former editor at Triathlete, Bicycle Guide, and California Bicyclist, an author and a freelance contributor to titles including Outside, Bicycling, Men's Journal, VeloNews and BRAIN. He was a longtime regular columnist for the LA Times.

According to news reports, Wallack was riding on Guadalasca Trail in Point Mugu State Park, when he crashed hit his head on a rock about 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Wallack is survived by his father, Norm; wife, Elsa; brother, Marc; two sisters; and an adult son, Joey.
