Selle Royal Group announces that it has achieved ISCC+ (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification), an internationally recognized standard that ensures the traceability and sustainability of raw materials throughout the entire supply chain.
Starting this year, the main products in the Selle Royal range will include ISCC+ certified polymers, produced from renewable raw materials and fossil feedstocks combined through the "mass balance" approach defined by the standard.
The adoption of this certification marks a key milestone in a sustainability journey that has already included major initiatives such as the introduction of Stracciatella technology, developed by the Group to significantly reduce material-related and CO₂ emissions, as well as the reduction of electricity consumption through the installation of a photovoltaic system at the Italian plant, which now covers up to 40% of its energy needs.
ISCC+ is a globally recognized standard that applies to multiple sectors – from bio-based and recycled materials to food and chemicals – ensuring CO₂ emission reduction, lower environmental impact, adherence to circular economy principles, stronger social and environmental responsibility, and transparency and traceability of raw materials.
For Selle Royal, this decision – which improves operational efficiency and clearly responds to the growing demand for responsible sourcing from brands and industrial partners – represents a benchmark for the entire sector in terms of sustainable innovation.
"The ISCC+ certification strengthens our commitment to a more sustainable supply chain," comments Marco Malfatti, Selle Royal Group R&D Director. "We are the first in the industry to adopt this kind of certification, setting an example of how to make products, services and supply chains more sustainable — a concrete way to reduce environmental impact, increase transparency and create new opportunities for the cycling industry."
Thanks to this innovation, it will also be possible to obtain more accurate LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and carbon footprint data, with certified reports to be released in the coming months.
The commitment of Selle Royal Group to the planet has deep roots and is built on concrete actions: in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement, the company has signed the SHIFT Cycling Culture Climate Commitment, joining leading industry players in pledging to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions (GHG Protocol) by 55% by 2030.
To give substance to this path, the Group has developed a detailed action plan based on the analysis of its main operational impacts, formalized in its first Sustainability Report, covering the years 2021–2023.
The Stracciatella technology, the adoption of ISCC+ certification, and the integration of certified raw materials are all key initiatives contributing to the achievement of these goals.
Year after year, Selle Royal Group reaffirms its commitment to inspiring people to choose the bicycle not only as a means of transport and wellbeing, but also as a symbol and a concrete tool for making conscious and sustainable choices, actively engaging consumers in this process of change.
