MISSOULA, Mont. – Carolyne Whelan has joined Adventure Cycling Association as Editor-in-Chief of Adventure Cyclist magazine. She takes over from longtime Editor Alex Strickland. Adventure Cyclist is the member magazine of Adventure Cycling.
"I'm excited to take on the role of Editor-in-Chief at Adventure Cyclist," said Whelan. "From my childhood in eastern Massachusetts, riding to the harbor to watch fishing boats, to my first true cycling adventure down the West Coast with nothing but a picnic blanket, to today, I've always enjoyed exploring my surroundings on two wheels. Joining Adventure Cycling will allow me to bring together my passions for publishing, bike-powered travel, and community-building."
Before joining Adventure Cycling, Whelan worked as Editor-in-Chief and Web Editor at Dirt Rag magazine, a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based independent mountain biking magazine and website. She also has been a writer and editor for several other cycling, travel, and lifestyle media outlets, including ESPN, Roads and Kingdoms, Bicycling, Bicycle Times, Backpacker, Roots Rated, Sierra, and Pink Pangea, and has worked in bike shops across the country. She holds a bachelor's degree and Master of Fine Arts in writing.
"Carolyne has a wealth of experience as a writer, editor, and cyclist, and we're happy to welcome her to Adventure Cyclist," said Scott Pankratz, Executive Director of Adventure Cycling. "As our organization continues to appeal to and embrace the inclusion of people from the whole of our society, we look forward to the stories she and the talented contributors she works with will bring to the magazine."
Whelan will oversee production of nine issues of Adventure Cyclist per year.
