The National Bike Dealers Association (NBDA) has released its annual list of America’s Best Bike Shops (ABBS) for 2020. To be considered for an ABBS award, shops must complete a rigorous self-evaluation on every aspect of the customer experience and then be evaluated by a secret shopper.

“I’ve never been more proud of our independent bicycle retailers” says NBDA president, Brandee Lepak. “Earning an ABBS designation in 2020 is a testament to a shop’s deep commitment to continuity, resilience, and excellence in serving the community, even during an unprecedented global health crisis.”

With record numbers of new cyclists coming through their doors daily along with inventory shortages, offering outstanding customer service in a safe environment is more challenging and more important than ever. The NBDA offers educational resources to help retailers elevate the customer experience, including information and guidance for staying safe while remaining open as an essential business during COVID-19.

“Bicycle retailers are an entryway for new cyclists. We have a responsibility to create a positive experience, or at least do our very best,” says John Robinson, owner of two-time award winning shop, Johnny Velo Bikes. “It’s not always easy right now, but it’s always worth it, and the ABBS award lets customers know they’re walking into a shop that will treat them well.”
