Orlando, Florida. – August 28, 2020 Catrike has announced the addition of four new members to its Orlando, Florida, based production team. Chelsea Jaeger takes on the role of Lean Water Spider, Matt Corsi and Luis Perez join the weld team and Johnny Mula comes aboard to bolster assembly of the new line of electric assist (eCAT) models.
"We are excited to welcome Chelsea, Matt, Luis, and Johnny to Catrike and continue the company's growth in these unprecedented times," said General Manager Mark Egeland. "In March, when the extent of the COVID-19 pandemic became apparent, we stopped production for two weeks to make adjustments inside the factory to ensure the team's safety. Modifications included workflow, staggered hours, enhanced cleaning procedures and remote operations, resulting in several weeks of reduced output. Despite the initial slow down, adapting quickly has now presented us with an opportunity to increase our U.S. based manufacturing and build for the future."
The adjustments made in March and April enabled Catrike to add to its team, but also not furlough or layoff any employees and to bring the factory back up to full capacity quickly. Lead times are longer than usual, but the factory has been back at full capacity for several weeks. The demand for standard models and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic also affected the launch and production of the new line of electric assist eCATs, which was delayed several weeks - shipping to dealers began in July. The eCAT line uses a Bosch Active Line Plus electric-assist drive mated to a 1 x 11 drivetrain (11 - 42 cassette / 44 tooth chainring). The Bosch Active Line Plus delivers assistance up to 20 mph and a cadence of 105. The eCAT line consists of six Catrike models: Dumont, 5.5.9, Expedition, Trail, Pocket and Villager.
