COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Jul. 19, 2019– Steve Kaczmarek, owner of Springs-based Borealis Fat Bikes announced today “Borealis will begin selling direct to consumers on eBay, Amazon and other social media platforms.” “With the recent tariff increases, continued pressure on our dealer network by the big brands, (effectively forcing Borealis dealers to reduce their spend on boutique brands) and customers preference to research our brand on Amazon, it was a necessary decision.”
Kaczmarek further stated: “In anticipation of increased tariff’s in 2019, Borealis purchased all products supplied from China in late 2018 for the 2019 / 2020 season. In addition to a solid inventory position, Borealis will sell direct and offer a 20% - 30% discount off current MSRP making our products not only the best Fat Bikes on the market but also the most price competitive with really no competition at that price point.” “If our competitors didn’t purchase in advance of the recent tariff increase, our new pricing could approach a 40-50% discount compared to companies who waited for the upcoming season.”
Borealis has offered incentives to their current dealer network to assist with the reduction in margin and has agreed to ship all bikes ordered online to a dealer if within 50 miles of a Borealis dealer. Kaczmarek detailed:” Although our dealers will make less money per unit, our new pricing and online ship to dealer agreement, the dealer should make more money from the brand compared with last year. Dealers will also have the opportunity to sell more ancillary products and services.”
