CHICAGO, IL (BRAIN) — Denver’s Turin Bicycles returns to its roots in more ways than one as it readies a new retail location in Chicago that will sell its own brand of bicycles as well as products and accessories from Asia and Europe that currently do not have U.S. distribution.

EVANSTON, IL (BRAIN) — Wisconsin’s Wheel & Sprocket, the BRAIN Gold Star Retailer owned by Chris Kegel, is opening its first location in Illinois, taking over the space being vacated by Evanston’s Ten 27 Cycles, formerly Turin Bicycles.

MILL VALLEY, CA (BRAIN) — High-end road and mountain shop Studio Velo gets a larger and more functional space to serve its well-heeled customer base after leaving its old digs for a new location in its hometown of Mill Valley, California.

WALNUT, CA (BRAIN) — Cycling website BikeRoar is offering U.S. dealers free listings to market their businesses, with an eye toward rolling out premium services that would display retailers’ in-stock inventory and pricing as well as detailed shop information such as videos and store tours.

GREENWICH, CT (BRAIN) — Signature Cycles has rescheduled a grand opening party for its new Greenwich Studio location because of another storm bearing down on the New York City area.

EVANSTON, IL (BRAIN) — Retailer Ten 27 Cycles, formerly Turin Bicycles, is closing after more than 40 years in Evanston, Illinois. 

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (BRAIN) — LTP Sports Group Inc., the new distribution arm of Norco Bicycles, has taken over ownership of Norco dealer John Henry Bikes, a fixture on Vancouver’s North Shore for 20 years, following the retirements of owners John Henry and Willie Cromack.

MANHATTAN, NY (BRAIN) — Who needs electricity to run a bike shop?

A handful of Manhattan bike shops re-opened Wednesday following post-tropical storm Sandy, as the city was flooded with bike commuters.

COSTA MESA, CA (BRAIN) — The Unlikely Cyclist is not only Lisa Kanno’s new women’s-specific shop, it is Kanno herself.

BELMONT, MA (BRAIN) — Hurricane Sandy has shut down most bike shops and suppliers from North Carolina to Southern New England, as high winds and heavy rain precede the storm's landfall, expected later Monday.

Most shops from Washington, D.C. to Boston are closed, with a few exceptions.

ENCINITAS, CA (BRAIN) — San Diego County retailer Ride Cyclery has acquired Pink Peloton, a store that focuses on the women's market. The two stores will co-habitate a new location opening later this week.

OLYMPIA, WA (BRAIN) — The bike retail business lost two members recently. Each was killed in a vehicle accident while bicycling.

RICHMOND, VA (BRAIN) — Retailer Ann “Spike” Toler, a mainstay of the Richmond cycling scene who unexpectedly passed away last week at age 50, will be remembered during a tribute mountain bike ride Wednesday originating at her shop, Coqui Cyclery.
