MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (BRAIN) — CSC Generation Enterprise, which owns and operates e-commerce retail businesses in several categories, has acquired Backcountry.com, including its MotoSport, Competitive Cyclist and Steep and Cheap businesses.

CSC's current sites include Sur La Table, and One Kings Lane. CSC bought the business from TSG Consumer Partners and terms are not being disclosed.

"We were drawn to Backcountry for several compelling reasons: their extensive and varied product range, deep connections with the outdoor community, and the remarkable passion and loyalty of their customers," said Justin Yoshimura, founder and CEO of CSC. "By integrating their strengths with our commitment to digital innovation, we believe there is significant potential for continued growth."

Melanie Cox, the CEO of Backcountry, said, "Joining CSC is a significant milestone for us. Our team is enthusiastic about utilizing CSC's expertise and resources to accelerate the Backcountry strategy. We are confident that this acquisition will enable us to expand our market presence and continue delivering outstanding outdoor experiences."

Backcountry will continue to operate under its brand name. Backcountry was founded in 1996 in Park City, Utah. It acquired Competitive Cyclist in 2011. In 2015, TSG acquired a majority stake in the company from Liberty Interactive Corporation. Last year Bloomberg reported that TSG was looking to sell the retailer.

In addition to its online business, in recent years Backcountry has opened about a half dozen brick-and-mortar locations and also has experimented with wholesale sales of some of its house brand products.
