ASPEN, Colo. (BRAIN) — Vail Resorts is closing 19 retail locations in the Colorado mountains. Most of the locations offered winter sports sales and rentals, but several of them also offered bike sales and rentals. The closures will cost 69 workers their jobs.
The company is closing eight Aspen Sports stores and demo locations in Aspen, six Telluride Sports locations in Telluride, Burton and Neve stores in Telluride, and a Patagonia store in Snowmass.
The locations were operated by SSI Venture, a Vail subsdiary. Vail also operates Epic Mountain Gear locations in Colorado, and other stores in Utah and British Columbia that are not affected by these closures.
In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice filed with Colorado, SSI Venture said most of the store closures will be completed May 1.
"The company announced this closure to employees in November, 2022, and has been proactively working with each employee to support them through this transition," the Feb. 27 filing said. "Employees will have the opportunity to apply for other positions within the company. Current storefronts are being transitioned to other retailers where possible and current employees have the option to engage with those employers about future employment opportunities."
