Trek buys Massachusetts store

Published January 27, 2021

LAKEVILLE, Mass. (BRAIN) — Spark Bike Run Sports, a 10-year-old multi-sport retailer south of Boston, has announced on its website that the store has been purchased by Trek Bicycle.

"After a great deal of consideration, the time has come to take a new and exciting step," store owner Mike O'Connell wrote on the site. "We are selling Spark Bike Run Sports to our partner, Trek Bicycle.  They will take what we've created here at Spark and build on it, continuing to serve our community in even bigger and better ways while sticking to the same core principles of treating people like family and delivering outstanding customer service."

A FAQ below O'Connell's letter said that the store will likely be renamed Trek Bicycle after a transition period in February, and that the store would stop selling running products. The FAQ said all current employees are being offered positions by Trek, as is the company's practice.

BRAIN has reached out to Trek to discuss its recent store purchases, which include its purchase of Mike Olson's 12 stores in California, New Mexico, and Oregon.
