LAFAYETTE, Colo. (BRAIN) — Peter Henry, the president of the New England retail chain Landry's Bicycles, has joined the National Bicycle Dealers Association's board of directors.
"I am delighted and honored to be invited onto the NBDA board. I hope to be a part of finding more ways to make the association important to all dealers, large and small," said Henry.
Todd Grant, the president of the NBDA, said, "We couldn't appreciate more Peter bringing his talents, wealth of experience, and clear dedication to the bicycle industry to the board of the NBDA. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with Peter, his brother Tom and the Landry's leadership. They are a group with great integrity and with a sense of pride in ownership. And that is because of a very progressive transfer of ownership plan that is bringing his team into ownership roles. It is this type of thinking and experience that the NBDA membership will benefit from."
Starting in 2010, Landry's ownership transitioned to an employee stock ownership plan, and all core staff now own shares in the company as part of their long-term retirement benefits.
Henry started in the bike industry when he graduated college in 1974, and bought his first shop from Leon Landry in 1975, just in time for the end of the Bike Boom.
With his late wife Jeanne they operated as a "mom-and-pop" sized shop into the 1980s, and with his brother Tom as an additional partner they became multi-store in 1990. Henry was drawn to bike retail because he loved fixing bikes; he listed his occupation as "bicycle mechanic" into the 90s. But after growing to four stores in 1996, he shifted his focus to financial management of the business. He has been a member of the NBDA's Profitability Project since it started in 2012.
Landry's has been recognized as "Top 100" or an "Americas Best Bike Shops" designation since 1999. In 2015 the chain was recognized as Interbike's Bike Shop of the Year.
