LOS ANGELES (BRAIN) — Banker Supply, which opened its first urban cycling lifestyle store in 2014 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will open a new location in Los Angeles next week. The retailer has plans to open its third location, in Chicago, later this year, and two more locations next year.
The new L.A. location is in Echo Park. It will have a grand-opening party Saturday night and will be open for business Sunday.
The retail chain was founded by Nick Drombosky, who also owns the accessory brand Fiks:Reflective.
The stores offer bicycles, cycling gear and fashion along with a full-service bicycle shop.
"We aren't the typical bike shop that offers the same products from the same distributors as everyone else," said Drombosky. "We spend hundreds of hours seeking out the best and most interesting products we can find so we can offer our customers brands and products they won't find anywhere else."
Drombosky and co-owner Julius Brenninkmeijer moved to Los Angeles this year to open the Los Angeles Banker Supply Store in Echo Park. The retailer said it generates 70 percent of its sales from women.
"We were attracted to the Los Angeles market not just because it is one of the fastest-growing cycling markets in the nation, but because its cycling community looks a lot different than that of other cities," Drombosky said. "The cycling community in Los Angeles is maybe the most varied in the country and much different than the mostly middle-aged, middle-class, white male-dominated cycling communities you will find in many cities in the U.S."
Banker Supply Los Angeles stocks brands including Coast Cycles, Brooklyn Bicycle Co., State Bicycle Co., Swrve, Fiks:Reflective, Cadence, Parker Dusseau, Levi's, Mission Workshop, Knog and Green Oil.
