SEATTLE (BRAIN) — REI will stop selling Scott bicycles as soon as its current stock is depleted, the companies announced Wednesday.
In what was described as a mutual and amicable decision, the retail co-op said its 10-year relationship with Scott Sports will end with the 2015 model year. The company stopped buying from Scott on May 1.
A joint press release said that REI has decided to simplify its bike assortment and tailor its bike offerings for each of its markets.
The co-op said it is "committed to connecting its members with gear however they choose to shop." REI began stocking bikes from the German brand Ghost earlier this year in an exclusive U.S. distribution agreement with the Accell Group-owned brand. Ghost bikes are available at all REI locations and online.
As for Scott, the company said it is "deepening its commitment to its network of high-end, independent bicycle dealers." The company said it is increasingly focused on the high-end market and has been gradually decreasing its footprint at REI in recent years.
REI has carried Scott bicycles since 2006, with bikes in 55 locations at the peak of its relationship. REI will continue to carry Scott snowsports products.
