First City Cycles opens in Oregon City

OREGON CITY, OR (BRAIN) Tuesday July 24 2012 8:21 AM MT—Up-and-coming Oregon City gains a full-service bicycle dealership with the opening of First City Cycles.

Owner Blane Meier, an involved resident of Oregon City for 25 years, recognized the community’s need for a quality bike shop and decided to take matters into his own hands. “Oregon City is a hub of bicycling activity, yet totally underserved,” said Meier. “We saw the opportunity and wanted to fill the need.”

First City Cycles is a Specialized dealership that caters to enthusiasts, triathletes and families. Along with Specialized bicycles, the store will offer repairs, accessories, apparel, parts and tools. Once the shop gains momentum, Meier plans to add more brands, sponsor events and offer tours and rentals. “We’re in the beginning stages right now, but we’re really encouraged,” said Meier. “People are already knocking on our door.”

The birth of First City Cycles matches the growth of its surrounding community with the revitalization of downtown Main Street, where the shop is located. According to Meier, Oregon City has designs to become a “high-end, trendy retail spot.”

A first-time shop owner, Meier recruited the help of store manager Rick Hanberry, a bike industry veteran with 10-plus years of experience, and Tom Dorzweiler, a UBI-certified mechanic. “I’m very blessed to have them on board,” said Meier.

First City Cycles held its soft opening July 21, with plans for a grand opening in mid-August. The store will offer $50 tune-ups throughout August.
